The Indigenous People of Canberra

It is estimated that there were approximately 1500 Aboriginal people, of the Ngunnawal nation,  living in the Canberra area at the time of the first European settlement.

The neighbouring people are the Gundungurra to the north, the Ngarigo to the south, the Yuin on the coast, and the Wiradjuri inland.
